The City of Kerman is in the process of preparing a Safe Routes to School (SRTS) and American with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan and welcomes the communities’ input.
The Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Plan will focus on providing safe travel to and from school campuses, with an emphasis on identifying measures to facilitate walking and bicycling by students. The SRTS plan will identify a range of physical improvements, including walkway improvements which may include enhanced or high-visibility crossings, bikeway improvements which may include bicycle lanes, paths, separated bicycle treatments, etc., as well as drop-off/pick-up improvement recommendations.
The ADA Transition Plan will focus on assessing barriers to travel that conflict with the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and will describe the methods that will be used to make those facilities accessible in the future. Barriers to travel relevant to ADA requirements for the public street network include street segments that lack ADA-compliant sidewalks or crosswalks, including ADA-compliant curb rams and/or ADA-compliant accessible pedestrian signals and markings. The ADA Transition Plan will identify location-specific barriers to ADA access, recommend improvements and costs to eliminate those barriers, and provide a schedule for installing the recommended improvements.

The City of Kerman is taking a significant step toward strengthening community resilience with the planned Kerman Area Multi-Generational Center (KAMGC) — a 15,400-square-foot addition to the existing Community Center.
Funded through a combination of City resources and a $7.25 million state resilience grant, the $16.3 million project will provide critical emergency features such as backup power and water, food services, laundry facilities, classrooms, training spaces, and sleeping quarters. Beyond emergencies, the center will serve as a hub for recreation, learning, and community connection.
Designed in partnership with ELS Architecture and Urban Design, the KAMGC will be shaped by community input. Residents are invited to participate in a three-part workshop series to guide the design:
• Jan. 21, 2026 (4–7 pm): Open House & Gallery Walk
• Feb. 18, 2026 (6–8 pm): Alternative Concepts & Visioning
• Mar. 18, 2026 (6–8 pm): Preferred Concept & Visioning
Workshops will be bilingual (English and Spanish), with online summaries and surveys available afterward to ensure broad participation.
