Call for Volunteers – Playground & Park Community Build Day

The City of Kerman Department of Parks & Recreation, along with Sebastian, will be organizing a KaBOOM! playground and park community build on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Katey’s Kids Park. Kerman received a $15,000 grant from KaBOOM! and the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group after being selected as a 2013 Playful City USA community and is using the grant to build a new, much-needed play equipment with community involvement.

We are seeking 100+ volunteers to assist in a community build day beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 14th at Katey’s Kids Park, located at 245 Park Ave. Kerman, CA. Volunteers will build a new playground, log picnic shelters and other park items. What does a “community build” entail? In simple terms, it’s an old fashioned “barn raising” that calls on everyone in the community to pitch in, building lasting relationships in addition to building the playspace and log picnic shelter.

The new playground will provide hundreds of children in the community with a safe place to play. The nature theme of the park will bring amazing play structures, log cabin picnic areas and a climbing wall with a hill slide.  This will be a one-of-a-kind park in Kerman. The community has been greatly involved in the building process and has done a tremendous job. We expect this event to be a culmination of all the community’s hard work and a wonderful welcoming to Katey’s Kids Park.

This playground is one of more than 16,300 playgrounds that KaBOOM! has helped build, open, or improve across the country, in an effort to fulfill its vision of a great place to play within walking distance of every child in America. Children need a place to play every day in order to be active and healthy. The City of Kerman has a plan to fulfill this vison by placing parks within a ½ mile walking distance for the majority of our residents. This new park will keep the City of Kerman playful and active!
